The majority of newborn placements through our Infant Adoption Program are open adoptions in which the birth parents select an adoptive family with whom they feel comfortable.

Openness between biological and adoptive families is now common, but the degree and type of openness varies by case, depending on the desires of those involved. Open adoption can help minimize loss for all members of the adoption triad - the child, adoptive family, and birth parents - and allow opportunities for long-term interaction.

Legal paperwork and court processing are handled by our agency for both the birth parents and adoptive family. Prospective adoptive parents meet with our staff, attend training classes, compile a family book to be reviewed by birth parents, and are visited at home by our staff. Should adoption be decided upon, we continue to work with those involved as long as necessary so new adjustments and healing can take place. Adoptive families who are selected may go through pregnancy with the birth mother. Couples with good moral character and safe, stable homes are eligible to become adoptive parents. Adoptive parents must be childless or have only one adopted or biological child. Fees up to $9,850 are charged to prospective adoptive parents to cover costs of pre-placement assessments, paperwork, and adoption orientation and education. Child and Family Services now offers home studies and post adoption supervision for international adoptions.
