Behavioral Health at CFS

Counseling
We provide counseling to children, youth, adults, families, and couples on a variety of issues.
Where appropriate, our counselors utilize a trauma-informed approach to treating children, adults, and families, as well as other evidence-based models of treatment.

We are here to help define the problem and to provide the tools with which people can make a difference in their own lives. We accept many insurance plans and services are offered on a sliding scale. Please talk with us if you're concerned about paying for services.

Safe Haven Supervised Visitation and Exchange
CFS provides supervised visitation and safe child exchange services for families affected by domestic violence or high conflict. It is the only program of its kind in northern Michigan.

Safe Haven's goal is to provide a safe, supervised, friendly, and age-appropriate environment for children to visit with their non-custodial parent or exchange between parents for visits.

Wraparound Intensive Family Preservation
Child & Family Services’ Wraparound Program provides community-based support and individualized planning for children, including those with severe emotional and behavioral disorders (SED). By bringing together family and other people relevant to the child’s well-being, the Wraparound Team creates an intensive family preservation plan that supports keeping the child at home with their family. The program works through a combination of team building, coordinating both natural and professional supports, brainstorming and developing strategies, and accessing and utilizing the community's resources and services.

Trauma Assessment & Treatment
Trauma occurs when dangerous or traumatic events overwhelm a person’s ability to cope. Trauma has devastating, long-term impacts on health and well-being. CFS provides comprehensive, multi-disciplinary trauma assessments for children ages 2-18. The day-long assessments use tools and observations to see how trauma has impacted the child, and equips caregivers and anyone who works with the child with intervention tools to help increase resilience, improve functioning, and reach their full potential. CFS also provides trauma-informed treatment to people of all ages.
